This image was inspired by a steep hill near Holywood, County Down where we used to go to visit an elderly lady who lived in a small cottage by the road side.
Whins is another name for gorse, or furze, the prickly bushes which are so common in Ireland, hence the name Whinney Hill.
I made this entirely myself from beginning to end, from the initial idea, through painting each layer on the litho stone, processing and proofing each colour, to printing the edition.
